Heiko Bleher has dedicated his life to all things fish, flora, and fauna through a rich history full of adventure and travel that began in childhood. Bleher nurtured and developed a fascination with fish into his adult life and sought an education at the University of South Florida to pursue courses in ichthyology, biology, limnology, oceanography and parasitology. During his educational years he worked with several fish farms and began his first collection, seeking to discover new species of fish and aquatic plant life.
In this rare presentation, Bleher will showcase over 6,000 fresh and brackish-water fish species that he has introduced to the educational aquarium hobby world since the 1960s. Over the last 50 years, Bleher has made significant expeditions, visiting over 181 countries across all continents, building his knowledge of aquatic habitats. His talk will feature information about his experiences accompanied by material gathered from a lifetime worth of expeditions and groundbreaking contributions to the fish-keeping field.
