The World Pet Association (WPA) announced today that Zoological Operations Manager Jeff Gibula of Newport Aquarium will be the keynote speaker at the second annual Aquatic Experience – Chicago, Nov. 7-9, 2014.The show is the first in industry history to combine everything aquatic under one roof—from saltwater and freshwater fish to pond and aquatic plants.Weekend Passes for Aquatic Experience – Chicago at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center (1551 N. Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg, IL) are now on sale for $99 and include access to the show floor, all seminars, speaker meet and greet, and keynote banquet. Keynote speaker Jeff Gibula, in partnership with Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, will take attendees on a behind-the-scenes lighthearted look at a public aquarium and its relationship to today’s hobbyists and their home aquariums. Gibula will speak about the average public aquarium’s volume, scope and scale and how it has become fantastically large over the past three decades as people continue to push the barriers, both with the type of captive animals they are caring for and the physical structures they are constructing. Additionally he will address the three key elements needed to successfully create these immensely complex, custom buildings: aquaculture, waste water treatment and the hobby trade.
In addition to Gibula’s keynote presentation, this year’s Aquatic Experience will host two inaugural aquatic competitions: the Aquascaping Live! Contest presented bythe Aquatic Gardeners Association, andthe Aquatic Experience Fancy Guppy Competition presented by the International Fancy Guppy Association.Show attendees will enjoy athriving show floor of exhibitors showcasing the latest in aquatic trends and products, including a display of over 130 aquariums stocked with a wide variety of tropical fresh and salt water fish farmed in the US, compliments of the Florida Tropical Fish Farmers Association(FTFFA). The Florida Tropical Fish Farmers Display will be open to thrill and inspire retailers, advanced hobbyists and fledgling aquarists all three days of the show. Attendees will also have the chance to experience the only travelling shark show in the country, Haai Inc’s Live Shark Encounter.
Aquatic Experience’seducational seminars on hobbyist and retail topics will feature aquatic experts Anton Lamboj, Bob Fenner, Brandon McLane, Charles Delbeek, Chris Lukhaup, Eric Bodrock, Francis Yupangco, Heiko Bleher, Jake Adams, Jen Reynolds, Joe Olenik, Jonathan Dooley, Julian Sprung, Karen Randall, Kevin Kohen, Oliver Knott, Oliver Lucanus, Patrick Dontson, Rusty Wessel, Sandy Moore, Sanjay Joshi, Steve Lundblad and Ted Judy. Seminar topics include: aquarium and water garden plants; fish breeding; changes in the aquatic world; specialty stores in niche markets; hiring and training strategies; designing a successful fish room; and aquatic explorations of Thailand and Lake Tanganyika.
