Patrick Donston, the owner and operator of Absolutely Fish, a full line Aquatics facility located in Clifton, NJ, will present a seminar this year at the Aquatic Experience on Developing and Documenting a Husbandry System.
With over 25 years of experience working with AZA accredited public aquariums, Donston is noted for his numerous articles on aquarium keeping and best business practices. With degrees in Ichthyology and interests in emphasizing pro-active versus reactive care, this talk will impart excellent information for anyone looking to building better systems to house stronger fish. Aquarists often chase their problems instead of focusing on preventing them. This seminar will emphasize a culture of daily needs and care, with less reactive treatment care. It will be highlighted with information about designing, building, and documenting husbandry systems. Included will be how to record and interpret statistical data to diagnose patterns and make the right decisions in improving your daily husbandry routine.
Dontson’s presentation will define and illustrate an understanding of key equipment needs and their purposes, simple ways to get started on data recording, how to create daily “To Do Lists” to ensure proper care, evaluation of livestock shipments and the proper acclimation techniques to achieve success with husbandry practices.
